History

The Ellinwood Lions Club was organized May 10, 1951, having been sponsored by the Great Bend Noon Lions Club.

For 59 years this club has been active in many ways:

  • Club service projects:
    • Taking tickets at high school sporting events
    • Annual community Easter Egg Hunt
    • Ongoing sponsorship and financial support of Boy Scout Troop 153 and Cub Scout Pack 158
    • Two $300 college scholarships each year
    • Sponsoring Lions sight bus during local festivals
    • Replacing park signs
    • Raising funds to replace park shelter
    • Added park benches
    • Participation in Lions' Peace Poster Contest
    • Sponsoring students to attend Lion's band camp
    • Delivering eyes to eye bank

  • Fund-raising projects:
    • Annual pancake and sausage feed
    • Annual community calendars
    • Participation in Lions' Candy Day
    • Selling brats

  • Social events:
    • Valentine sweetheart dinner
    • Annual Christmas party
    • Marching in local festival parades
The Lions Club is a good avenue for individual men and women to serve this community.
