James Van Buren

The 1998 Great Bend Jazz Festival, Inc. featured headliner will be James Van Buren.

James Van Buren was born in Arrow Rock, Missouri lived in Kansas City and now resides in Denver, Colorado. His musical career as percussionist and vocalist spans more than 30 years. He has developed a musical style that has earned him national recognition with some of the masters of the music industry as music critics liken his vocal charm to that of crooners from a generation ago. James Van Buren has also excited jazz and blues connoisseurs with his original compositions as he fuses the rhythm and improvisation of jazz with the emotion and spirituality of the blues. As singer, songwnter and producer, he has released six albums and gives generously of his time to support the growth of the arts. His warm, open personality contributes to his ability to draw large crowds and a loyal following.

As a child drummer he formed his own blues band, The Blues Kings.
