District 17-L, Zone L
Claflin, Ellinwood & Great Bend, Kansas

History

At the ripe old age of eighty-seven the Great Bend Noon Lions Club is the oldest civic club in the Great Bend area. Just six years after International was founded, the Great Bend club was organized March 23, 1923, under the supervision of C.E. Marsh, member of the Wichita Lions club and Field Director of Lions International. The Great Bend Noon Club was the sponsor of each of the other clubs in the zone.

The Claflin Lions Club was organized sixty-nine years ago on November 25, 1940.

On February 25, 1947, the Noon Lions sponsored a club in Hoisington but that club disbanded June, 2000.
We hope to revive Lionism in Hoisington.

The Ellinwood Lions Club was organized fifty-nine years ago on May 10, 1951.

Finally, thirty-nine years ago, the Great Bend Evening Lions Club was organized November 30, 1970.

The Noon Lions Club has also sponsored three clubs that have been assigned to other zones in District 17-L:
  • St. John (February 2, 1924) now in zone J
  • Pawnee Rock (August 22, 1949) now in zone J
  • Rush Center (March 6, 1987) now in zone K
The Lions Club is a good avenue for individual men and women to serve this community.

Our membership trend has been a slow decline as you can see in the chart below. Let's all work to reverse this trend.
